Risk of developing diabetes depends on the following factors
A) Age- As age increases, the risk of developing diabetes increases.
B) Family history- If one or both of your parents has diabetes, the risk of developing diabetes increases.
C) Obesity or increased waist circumference- As weight increases or waist circumference increases, the risk of getting diabetes increases.
D) Sedentary lifestyle- Risk of getting diabetes increases if you are not exercising, putting up weight, have a sedentary lifestyle.
E) The chances of getting diabetes increases if you have concomitant diseases like Hypertension, high cholesterol levels, heart diseases, etc.
Most of times the diabetes are not cured. In certain situations like short term use of steroids for other diseases, severe infections,etc blood sugar may rise temporarily and becomes normal after sometime. In overweight or obese diabetes patients , if patients looses weight significantly , diabetes may get cured.
