Insulin Pump

Insulin pump therapy is form of Continuous subcutanous Insulin Infusion (CSII) through which Insulin is deliverd continuously through a fibre cannula . The Cannula is inserted by Quickserter in intradermal space over abdomen. As insulin is continuously delivered , Glycemic variability is reduced . It is more important in Type 1 Diabetic patients where there is more Glycemic Variability. It works on Basal Bolus regimen and thus reduces insulin requirements compared to insulin injectio regimens. It almost works like artificial pancreas. Selection of patients is important as it requires involvment of patients and requires self monitoring of blood sugars frequently.
